My Role
As the lead designer, I drove the project from the ground up — starting with stakeholder workshops and discovery, through to information architecture, interaction design, and final UI execution.
I collaborated closely with PMs, security SMEs, and engineering under an evolving product vision and tight delivery timelines.
Timeline
6 Months, 2024-25
Outcome
Shipped security dashboard with VCF 9.0 release
1. Overview
A unified platform within VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) that brings together security operations, compliance, and drift detection making it easier for users to monitor and manage security across products from a single, streamlined interface. The challenge wasn’t just combining features it was bringing clarity, consistency, and confidence to security operations for cloud admins and enterprise IT teams.
Why this project?
Security touch-points across VCF were fragmented. Users had to jump between multiple products, each with different standards and UI paradigms. With the launch of VCF 9.0 post-acquisition, we needed a way to bring these pieces together — to offer clarity, reduce cognitive overhead, and build trust in a sensitive domain.
Key Impact
Designed and shipped the Security Operations Dashboard in under 6 months, from concept to production.
Unified security operations across 3 major VMware platforms bridging user, infra, and network security in one interface.
Early access users rated Security Center highest (6.33+/6.0) across all tested modules in usefulness, usability, and value.
Drove alignment across multiple teams, domains, and tools, maintaining a consistent design language and operational clarity.
2.2 The Opportunity
Bring together fragmented security touchpoints into a single, unified operations dashboard that provides:
Unify visibility: Bring multiple systems under a single dashboard
Personalized access: Let users see what matters most to their role
Transparency first: Show access, status, and risk clearly, not behind layers
Actionable insights: Connect user to details and control planes
Modular views: Allow flexibility while maintaining consistency
A central hub to view, manage, and act on security operations — without switching tools or second-guessing.
2.1 The Problem
Security settings and operations were scattered across three major VMware platforms.
No single dashboard for all key operations
Access and compliance handled differently across platforms
Users lacked confidence in tool coverage and system state
This led to reactive fire-fighting instead of confident, proactive security posture.
